Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 13, 2026

Overview

RideDataOverlay ("we", "us", or "the Service") is a browser-based tool for overlaying cycling telemetry on video. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

Your video and telemetry files are processed locally in your browser. We do not operate a backend that receives or stores your ride footage or FIT/GPX files.

Local processing

When you import video and FIT or GPX files, parsing, preview, sync, and export run on your device. Exported files are saved to a location you choose (or downloaded through your browser).

Project state such as clip order, sync offsets, and layout preferences may be stored in your browser (for example in IndexedDB or local storage) so you can continue work across sessions. This data stays on your device unless you clear site data.

Account information

An account is required to use RideDataOverlay. Authentication is provided by Clerk. Clerk may collect your email address, OAuth provider information (such as Google), session data, and account identifiers needed to sign you in.

We store subscription status in your Clerk public metadata (for example "pro") so the app can unlock features after checkout. We do not receive your video or telemetry through your account.

Analytics

When configured, we use PostHog to understand how the Service is used — for example page views, tool usage, import/export events, and upgrade clicks. If you are signed in, your Clerk user ID and email may be associated with analytics events to measure product usage.

If PostHog is not configured in a deployment, analytics calls are disabled and no usage data is sent.

Payments and subscriptions

Subscriptions are processed by Stripe. When you subscribe, Stripe collects payment details, billing address as required, and subscription status. Our Cloudflare Worker creates a Stripe Checkout session (including an optional free trial) and receives webhook events to update your plan in Clerk.

We do not store full payment card numbers on our servers. Stripe's privacy policy governs payment data: https://stripe.com/privacy

Cookies and similar technologies

The Service and our providers may use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies for:

• Keeping you signed in (Clerk) • Remembering your language preference • Analytics (PostHog) • Stripe Checkout and fraud prevention during payment

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may limit sign-in or checkout.

Data retention

Local project data remains on your device until you clear browser storage or reset the project in the app.

Account and subscription metadata are retained while your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. Analytics data retention follows PostHog settings. Stripe retains billing records according to its policies and legal obligations.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal data we hold about you, or to object to certain processing.

You can delete local data by clearing site data in your browser. For account or subscription requests, contact us using the email below. You may also manage or delete your Clerk account through Clerk's account tools where available.

Children

The Service is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated policy.
